Davie's Activa Clutch

It's one of those things Chris. An unforseen happening that we all have when running older cars. It could have been the end of it for me, but it's going to get sorted properly. It's getting a full set of discs and pads also, get the oil and filters changed soon. I think it will need a couple of bits welded for next mot, but then again its an old car and that doesn't bother me. It will get what it needs. I haven't sold the 205 yet, there's someone on here thinking about it, so might fit in for getting the activa home. I will think about that when Jim is finished working his magic on it [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Rain and weather has currently stopped play and once the 4HP20 refurb is complete (tomorrow) I can then concentrate a little more on the Activa...

You're right about the overall condition.. A little TLC will have it absolutely immaculate. Mechanically and hydraulically it's superb. Gearbox oil was lovely and clean...

Definitely one to be preserved

Yes, it's how I always do them... The car is high enough to slip the 'box down and out of the way...

So in other words, it's a total PITA but with limited facilities, lack of space, no ramp, no cover from British weather, old enough to have more sense......................I somehow, still manage

Oh absolutely Lexi

It's really not that bad.. I've had lots of practice.... never forget that very spot where Davie's car now sits has accommodated many, many massive jobs in the past including a number of V6 gearboxes and a couple of breakers...

There's no substitute for pulling cars apart to find out how they are built. I would have attempted this clutch myself had I been physically able. In fact it may be my physical condition which limits how long I am able to keep it.

I did have them apart a few times as I tend to strip them every couple of services on my cars, keep the pads free. However I know the rears were getting to the point of replacement as one was not allowing the pad to make contact with the whole surface area. Though they still provided the sufficent braking at the MOT so they weren't a pressing issue and thhere was plenty of meat on the pads and discs.

I did gather a set of genuine rear discs and pads ready to go on, I can't remember if I passed them on to you or not?

IIRC it could do with new caliper covers, as they're a little thin.

You have me the discs, and I thought the pads too but I couldn't find the pads. I had bought another set of pads to do them, was waiting for better weather. Hopefully that will mean they will come apart ok when I get it home. I could post the discs and pads to Jim, but I'd better leave something for myself to do [emoji23]

That's reassuring

The job should be straightforward then Davie..Don't forget you'll need a 5.5mm socket to remove the disc...

Yes indeed... Now you know it shouldn't be beset with any issues due to Chris's good work in the past it'll be a nice pleasant afternoon spent one sunny day
