one would assum a warranty start date is when it has been first registered/sold by the dealer

Argh! Call the fuzz...!

Hmmm, no ground off chassis number or wound back clocks, I think I'm safe!

Thanks to you guys and this wonderful forum the issue is resolved, I ordered the part from Ebay (uk). The seller very helpfully requests you send your registration to them also, so they don't sell you the wrong part. Nice.

I even came away with the unexpected bonus of Big Blue's (or Le Rat as she's sometimes affectionately called) birth certificate! Bon!
