did you get rid of the stuttering , i have a potentially similar problem, with it happening at random times, on odd occasion engine completely dies and wont start for a few mins. have read codes with lexia and nothing conclusive.

Nothing so far this morning but it's probably a bit early to be certain that the fuel filter solved the problem.

\It does not have to, just drop the rail pressure and the ecu will cut the car.....?

good to know, but still i imagine it would take a fair amount of junk to reduce the fuel filter flow rate that much considering their surface area, but i guess if it where dispersed through the fuel it could build up homogeneously.

You would think.....but the C5 and many common rails are very sensitive to fuel flow/pressure.......

You need to get it on a Lexia to really find out the problem.....

and that points back to a filter.....

FYI, failed/ing MaF sensors as an example, give strange "driving faults" as well, power loss etc, these are often not recorded in the software either as the car thinks it is doing what it thinks it should with the readings it is getting. This is where the group experience of the people here can save so much time chasing snowballs in the summer. Hope its cured and the consensus is correct.

Completly didnt have time to come back to this earlier, my mechanic came and hooked up his computer, imediatly said everythings fine, fit a new fuel filter. Well when I took the old one out I could not believe how bad it looked after just 10k !! New one fitted, runs like a dream now. I plan on swapping the fuel filter in sixmonths just to be sure and not damage the engine in any other way. Also shortly after, I had the cambelt replaced and it starts instantly, feels smooth and dosnt run on in shutdown, that must have been in bad shape too ! Hopefully its good for another 80k !
