What do you call a philosophical, overweight senior monk? A deep, fat friar.

Just a thought. How food safe are some of the chemicals mentioned? Do they leave any residue that could end up in the cooking fat next time it is used?

I don't suppose any of them are worse than Mr. Muscle oven cleaner, which seems to affect me worse than any of the others!Hell Razor5543 wrote:Just a thought. How food safe are some of the chemicals mentioned? Do they leave any residue that could end up in the cooking fat next time it is used?

Re: How useful is "Gunk" ....??
I have terrible reactions to Mr. Muscle Mike.. In fact all of those genre of oven cleaners...
One very effective grease remover I used to know of was a foaming cleaner designed for electronics applications called 'Carterclene' made by Electrolube.
It was wonderful stuff and I used it to clean a very crusty old cooker hood that was covered in frying residues.. It pulled it straight off...
Sadly, Carterclene was banned not long after and became unobtainable... One of its active ingredients was ammonia and that was obvious from the smell of it.. Although Electrolube still make a 'CarterClene CTC' it's not the same stuff as the original and nowhere near as effective...
I've still got a few cans stashed away...

Re: How useful is "Gunk" ....??
I have just used some oven cleaner on the bath - yes the bath, we have a high iron content in our water its also very acidic so a strong alkaline cleaner is what's required to get the copper plating off! I sprayed some on the bath and the ammonia nearly knocked me over - and I'm not allergic to it.
