No it wouldn't. The light has to illuminate then go off as per the manufacturers specifications.

Right, update time.

I spent about 4 hours dismantling and reassembling down to the innards of the Com20000 unit. Why'd it take so long? 2 hours was spent at the first effing hurdle. 2 spanners Haynes!?! I wish! The clips that hold the air bag in place are fairly ok to unclip individually, but get one out and the other just hibernates. Oooohhh, the new and novel swear words I managed to conjure up solving that ruddy nightmare. Here's a pic, should you meet them in a dark alleyway, please stab 'em in the kidneys for me:

Anyway, I finally got the steering wheel off. The black earth cable seemed disconnected, giving false hope of curing my problem:

A quick underside. Is it me or is the Com2000 unit younger than my 52 plate car?
Image

Seems that's the case!

Com3000 finally off, further hope because the brown didn't seem to be properly connected:

Dismantled:

Yes, it was a bit of a balancing act to get it back together, yes all of my endeavours didn't solve the problems, yes I got rather angry, but at least I know what I'm up against. So, it's off to a scrappies for a replacement...

...well, I'm not 100%. Do I just go for the replacement airbag or should I get the Com4000 too?

I wonder if the dates shown are the expiry dates (both of the warranty and of the part!). :-D

You'll want the Comm 2000 not the airbag.

Hah, 2 year expiry? Could be, sounds typical!

I'll go for a recon Comm then. What bit (hopefully in the pics) holds the serial/version number?

If you post up the last 8 digits of the VIN we can check for the part numbber - there are LOTS of variants! However, in your fourth picture you can just see the end of a number ending XT - this is the part number you should be able to cross reference this with potential donors.

Send me the last 8 digits of the VIN, and I will get the correct Citroen part number from service.citroen, you can then search against this. There are quite a few on e-bay but mostly used at around £70 - new ones vary from £120 - £200 after aftermarket, depending on which one it is. If you intend to keep the car I woulod advoid a used one, as it is likely to suffer a failure again shortly....

service.citroen says:

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
00006242G3 CONTROL UNIT 232.51 GBP 232.51 GBP 279.01 GBP 279.01 GBP 279.01 GBP 279.01 GBP

Not a common part, as the only sensible hit I got on the part number is: http://www.peugeotpartsforsale.com/citr ... -no-6242g3

Yours doesn't have ESP, so fitting will not require interrogation with a Lexia.
