cheers, just when i returned from garage coolant was hot, bubbles forming, and went down fairly fast , always kept coolant topped up

DO NOT drive it again until the problem is discovered....don't even start it. Find a garage (if you are not capable) to diagnose the problem and see if it is economical to fix....9 times out of 10, if you drive it you WILL cause more damage. Have it recovered/towed to the garage.

Where did the water go...?? can you see it under the car ??, if not it IS in the engine and that will damage it big time very quickly...so please do not run it.

mechanic with citroen diagnostics machine.to be honest all i want is this 2 last till mot is up march after coming back and finding the problem with the coolant dont know what 2 do cut my losses /

there is a slight damp spot on the ground directly under the the coolant filler,oil looks good no signsof normal head gasket problems no water in oil, coolant slightly warm 2night but not bubbling or draining down

Well if he says the MAF does not matter...then that is worrying for me, I do not know him however ...you do.

Its gone someplace and if not under the car then it must either be in the oil or in the cylinders. Oil and water as you say don't mix, water in cylinders is equally as bad and can even cause hydraulic lock which will destroy con-rods or cause extreme wear to the rings/pistons.

Simple compression testing will tell if there is a problem
