Who are you replying to? MerleCollins or me?

My local indy will do the whole job, inc waterpump and VAT for £350.

Savoy, who I know better and are up near my mum's, so I like to combine a visit up there with a trip to Savoy (I sometimes say hello even if there's no work to be done on the car) , charge about the same.

Dealer "fixed price repair" is £295 inc vat, but doesn't include the waterpump, so completely pointless in my view.

OK, anyone got any recommendations for Citroen parts suppliers? Will probably just get all the bits myself and give them to the mechanic. Will need a timing belt cover as well...

you sure your sure? just getting to grips with Dispaches myself its pretty hard to see much of the engine as the head seems to be located just behind the ashtray! the obvious belt is the aux drive belt. Your saying you can see a second belt going up under the screen?

Gates kits seem cheap on Ebay, Euro carparts are reasonable and their on line only subsidiary " car parts4 less " seem good value for the same bits but you have to wait.

Hi there. My name is Chris and I have decided to change the timing belt and water pump on my Dispatch 2.0 hdi 2002.All was good up up to the point that my marks on the new belt wont align.I have turned the engine via crank shaft with a ratchet 2 times and the marks on the belt are far from right.Any advice?I am really desperate now cause it doesn't be as it should.thanks in advance

Hi

No, the marks on the belt won't align after two revolutions.
You need to check the marks on the pulleys, or reinsert the locking pins, if you have them.
The marks on the belt are only there as a guide while installing it for the first time and many don't have them at all!
Some belts have arrows indicating which direction they should run and you should always obey them, though I have seen them the wrong way round a couple of times!
If you ever intend to refit a used belt (why would you do that???) it MUST go back the same way around as it was originally.
If you can't find marks on the pulleys, or don't have the locking pins, keep turning the engine with your ratchet and, eventually, the belt marks will come back into alignment. Expect tired arms, though...

It's behind the starter motor - more or less in line with the gap between the the motor body and the solenoid. It might be easier to drop the starter back to find it if this is your first time.

Just a little suggestion; at this point you've turned the engine through half a dozen, maybe more, full revolutions and nothing's fouled anything, correct?
That means it's safe for you to let the starter do the work and see will it start and how it runs.
I'm betting it'll be fine, so long as the belt tension is near enough right and the belt marks were right when you fitted it.
As to how many times you need to turn it before the belt marks come back in line, I don't know, never having done it.
If you really want to know, then you need to count the teeth on the crank pulley and on the belt. You're looking for the lowest common multiple. That's how many times you'll have to turn it!
To be honest, once I was sure nothing was fouling and the belt was reasonably tight, I'd just go for it.
If it runs well, job done. If it runs badly, or not at all, you're no worse off.

I seem to recall 8 revs to get things set, then recheck your tension..

It is possible and quite easy to re-tension cambelt when everything is bolted back together.. I did mine on Tuesday as it was a bit tight..
took all of 30 mins.. fairly straightforward..

note to all, we should have a communal SEEM gauge ;)
