Yes! Horn on the stalk not the bloomin' rear screen heater on the stalk! (what were they smoking with that one?)

An XM S1.5 is still a S1 car to everyone else, exacept us pureists Jim.

I disagree with the Ds, the cowled in S2 front if far more streamlined and supeior..

Seperate compartments for putting various bits on the headlights? You've lost me there Kev!

As for DS, the double headlight version is the only one to have in my opinion 8-)

Is it true that the S2 (Xantia) has a softer ride than the S1 ? Although I've previously owned both, there was a few
years between both so I can't compare.

I´ve had S1 1,8 SX 8v Berline and S2 2,0HDi Berline. S2 wins hands down; no freezing doors, no leaking heater, no freezing breather valve, and engine way better. About only thing I missed from S1 was lighter steering and maybe better noise insulation. Quality-vice S1 might have better plumbing, at least I haven´t heard of problems with the pipe between power steering and pump, on S2 this seems to be common problem.

Is this mutating into a "which is the best Xantia MODEL" to have?
Unquestionably a s1 v6. Just don't ask after I've driven a s1 Activa again... :-k

Has to be the early series one for me. By far the best looking Xantia, the design is razor sharp even after all these years.

Yes the HDi offers much better performance but there is more to life than performance. My 1.9d may not be fast but if driven considerately is superb on fuel.

The Serie 2 is very sleek looking, but a little bland. Doesn't look as easy to replace light bulbs.

Early Serie 1's with the Chevron on the hood look anonymous. The grille is has a flat-pan slat-like look that doesn't go with the shape of the car.

Later Serie 1 with the Chevron in the grille are the best looking.

S1 has better (read softer) suspension than S2. Fortunately that´s easy to fix, I put same spheres on S2 HDi that I had on S1 1,8 SX and ride was very comfy again. In my opinion Xantia´s facelift was success; it didn´t ruin the look of the car at all, as often happens. Just made it look a bit more like original concepts. A good example of terrible facelift is Mk2 Xsara.

MK1 Activa (or any of the other models with that bodykit) looks the best.
Engine wise V6 if I had the cash, other wise HDi 110.

Best car I've driven is my HDi Activa, I need to add cruise control and a remap to be truly happy!!
why?
