When I bought my Xantia nearly 3 years ago it had the speedometer needle all the way over to the right. Seller admitted to having to jump start it due to a flat battery.
On the way home the needle reset itself back to zero, I assume a jolt in the road with the instrument being used did the trick.
If it was to happen again, first thing I'll do is go for a drive and see if that fixes it.
And I've got to say that this car is one of the most reliable I've ever had. I was planning on selling it when I bought a Mx5 earlier this year but couldn't do it.
Now a two car family and I'm the only driver in the house!!!
Martin.

speedo get the car up to 70-75 and it sorts itself on mine,
revcounter get the engine warm ( i only say that cause id never redline a cold engine) then redline the bugger again it sorts it self

Re: Xantia x2 speedo and rev counter stuck in full position
Can't believe I am resurrecting such an old post.
Both my rev counter and speedo went all the way up to max. due to a flat battery approx. a month ago. Then returned down to 0 (MAYBE!) but of late the rev counter was on around 1500rpm at idle. Today it is 1950rpm at idle and speedo just does roughly what it wants.
I've seen one other post that suggest resoldering four points on the PCB but even a 3 hour job at the moment is too much for my sanity after today's escapades and all I've done is an oil change.
I've had a good look around and spotted the front offside suspension feed pipe may be on its last legs.
Engine running sweet as a nut since the oil change.
The turbo doesn't 'ZING' as much as it did and also the strange tale of the corroded part of the intercooler that I found on the front valance gets stranger. The intercooler looks 100% fine so I can only assume that it had the intercooler replaced before I bought it due to corrosion and they just left the bit of aluminium rotting on the valance for a future owner to find! So I must make a point of taking the intercooler out and checking it over thoroughly as the sound of the turbo kicking in is very pronounced as if there is an air leak somewhere preventing attenuation of the sound.
I wouldn't relish changing the turbo from what I've seen today. Totally inaccessible almost. I think it's a wheelarch liner off jobby with a judicious amount of contortion thrown in as opposed to a nice little 107 I've seen today. You could 'hug' the engine!

Re: Xantia x2 speedo and rev counter stuck in full position
The S2 instrument cluster suffers very badly with dodgy connections and bad joints Roger... A big bash with your fist on top of the dash will sometimes confirm the diagnosis...
If all gauges read stupidly high there is a 7805 type integrated circuit voltage regular hiding away on the back of the cluster PCB that sometimes plays up... It's on a finned heatsink if my memory serves me well enough...
I may still have a spare S2 cluster here if you get stuck...
Those large diameter suspension feed pipes can, depending on where it's bad, be resurrected by splicing in and sleeving some replacement pipe and then brazing it... The difficult bit is removing it to perform the repair. One side is easier than the other...

Thanks Jim.
I’ll have to steel myself for taking the car apart again.
In the meantime, the fist of fury will be unleashed...
