No need, you can swap the feed pipe boss on the pinion valve. The boss just screws in (21mm socket needed IIRC) and thus you can convert between rubber seal and flare with ease...

Oh, I'm so sorry Paul

Mind you, it might not have helped as the pipes are very model-specific and your donor one may well not have fitted without a lot of faffing around due to the differences at the pump end and that end of the pipe is not very amenable at all to being bent into new shapes without cracking and thus causing further grief...

Look at it this way; you've now learned a valuable skill in brazing that's going to be increasingly useful.

no Malcolm.. i bloody haven't! i couldn't braze the two damm parts to save a life! the two pipes just wouldn't go no matter how clean i got them..

i got soo peeeed by it i decided to take my last complete s2 pipe off the last spares car..

upon removal this one too broke through rust!..

so i ended up dooing what i CAN do.. join with union and straight line joiners .. this last pipe broke on a straight part not on the curved part where the others had.

so moral of this got the pipe all joined up with unions and its all up and running.

Luckily the PAS pipe is 4.5mm and I have 4.5 dies. the only other pipe that is 4.5 is the front to rear brake feed pipe..

Subject now closed. I hope i don't need to do another in the end. Three weeks to sort it from trying S1 pipes and pinion valve conversions to ending up back with a s2 fitted pipe with pleanty of underseal on it...

Paul, when you come down to lay spanners on my XM I'll teach you how to braze properly... Bring the remains of your bad pipes with you and we'll make a good 'un for you
