Very easy, take off one plug on engine and plug into tuning box, plug other lead on tuning box into the now vacant plug on engine, job done. All you need to know is whether you have Bosch or Siemens engine management, take the engine cover off and look at the diesel injectors, if they have a connecting pipe on top between the 4 injectors then its Bosch, no pipes = Siemens.

They will give more mpg if you drive a lot harder than I do but I rarely use the extra power I would be more than happy with a 2.0L if anyone wants to do a swap. The box is not difficult to fit just fiddly, you need to take the fuel filter off to get to the common rail connector. I might be tempted to sell mine if anyone is interested.

In reply to earlier.... My alternator has a clutch pulley.
I believe all 2.2 Hdi have the clutch pulley on the alternator.

That's alright then, they don't all have it, coz sometimes people unknowingly fit the wrong ones

It can be done in situ, i had my friends 14 year old son do it, his small hands fitted down between the pipework. Took literally 5 minutes.Peter.N. wrote:. The box is not difficult to fit just fiddly, you need to take the fuel filter off to get to the common rail connector.

True, but on my engine you get covered with oil, you also have to make sure you have the right plug at the bottom, I found it difficult to trace the wires.

Re: C5 2.2 HDI SX 2001, Crank Pulley.
Hi, I got a new problem now, I have a 2001 Citroen C5 2.2 HDI, the cam-belt has snapped whilst driving and engine turned over to try and restart after it failed. Is it possible that I could get away with replacing the belt, or is it likely that the pistons or anything else damaged.
Cheers Russ

The 2.0. 8 valve usually only breaks the rockers, I'm not sure about the 2.2 but they sell sets of rockers on ebay.

Pretty sure the 16V 2.2 is an interference engine so you can expect lots of bent valves. I've seen used 2.2 engines for £150 so a swap is viable.

Re: C5 2.2 HDI SX 2001, Crank Pulley.
My 4007 2.2 hdi just cut off while driving cam signal - signal missing is the diagnostic code so expected belt snapped was planning to change it next week I have a week off work, but when I turn the key the belt rotates 2 revolutions then stops rotating while engine is still cranking I can hear compression and belt isn’t snapped I guess it hasn’t interfered and smashed itself it cranks fine, could it be the rubber /plastic crank pully slipping? I’m going to start stripping the side of the engine before work tomorrow and continue after work until my neighbours shout at me but any ideas etc I can’t sleep I need the car fixed asap I have the new belt kit and water pump ready to fit should I order a pully/ key way ready for when I get it all off or you think engine is smashed? Thank you in advance!!

Re: C5 2.2 HDI SX 2001, Crank Pulley.
The cam belt isn't driven by the crank pulley, it's driven by a metal sprocket behind that.
Your symptoms sound like it might that your tensioner has failed and the belt has lost tension?
Or perhaps the water pump has seized and stripped some teeth off the belt.
Only way to tell is to strip it down and investigate...

Re: C5 2.2 HDI SX 2001, Crank Pulley.
It’s stripped 17 teeth off the belt around the bottom pully so bottom was still spinning while shutting down but top would have stopped or could compression keep the valves moving correctly to avoid smashed valves etc?

I attach a few photos first one is back of engine, 2nd is front of engine and 3rd is the line of teeth that fell on floor when removing the cover,

Re: C5 2.2 HDI SX 2001, Crank Pulley.
Ouch.
Well, you know what the problem is at least.
With where you're at, you have nothing to lose by replacing the belt/water pump/tensioner pulleys and giving it a go.
Unless you can see a fault with the bottom pulley, don't go replacing it imo (and that can always be done later without disturbing the timing belt anyway?).
I guess your biggest problem now that it is definitely out of time due to stripped belt, is making sure you have the engine correctly timed (top at the correct TDC in relation to the bottom)...
