C3 Starter Motor Replacement

thanks for the advice. However I was aware of a dowel when I removed the starter. I checked but there wasn't one. I've also checked in case I'd missed it and it had fallen down. However I have checked this and I 99% certain that there wasn't one. I have the car since new and it has never had a replacement starter.
It appears from Euro car parts that the RTX replacement shows a dowel fitted in the starter. So maybe this unit would be the best replacement.

If one of the fixing bolts goes through a tubular dowel, then the bolt will be a good bit smaller in diameter than the hole in both starter and clutch housing. Should tell you whether there needs to be a dowel there or not.

Take my advice & dont put an RTX starter on your car, they are euro car parts own brand and are notorious for poor quality. If you are lucky enough to get one thats not faulty straight out the box then they more often than not dont last more than a few months.
Also just because the picture shows a dowel doesn’t mean it will come with one, pictures are sometimes just for illustration purposes.
Cant imagine the dowel is more than a couple of quid from the dealer.

thanks for the advice. I will try to get a dowel from a Citroen dealer and not use a RTX replacement.

I have found a starter motor supplier. Its call CPM parts Ltd. It cost £52 and is new, not recon. It appears that it also includes the dowel.

I got the CPM starter motor. After a couple of hours trying to fit it I realised that it was the wrong model. After returning this (no problem), I ordered one from manufacturer MAE (again from ebay). This unit appeared new and good quality and it fitted. Strangely the dowel appeared (projected) during fitting. It was quite a job, but now is working.
