Re: front discs and pads time !! ??
No seriously, because of the roads local to me I habitually brake hard from 70'ish MPH into roundabouts etc, so they get a pounding. The brakes work fine, actually much better since I did the sphere's, but I just like to press on ! If that sounds like I'm a nutter I assure you I'm not !! I have a clean licence and haven't had an insurance claim since I was 19, which was a while ago ! Also I only use speed where safe and appropriate to do so. I have quite a bit of track experience though and the technique for that is much different to normal road driving.

Oh, forgot to mention, courtesy of Richards lead, a full set of front Pagid brakes is on the way, just under £90 the lot, next day delivered !! Feels like cheating !
Never used Pagid in the Xantia before, it's tended to be Mintex or Apec, will post up how long they survive the last of the late brakers !!

Re: front discs and pads time !! ??
6k was about average on pads in the bx, I drove it the way it was intended for!
tyres didn't Last Overly long either!
Pushing on in a Xant I can quite easily imagine wearing the pads out quickly, especially with an estate,
The discs and Pads were low on ours and had a new set arrive today so will be able to see how long they last with my driving! I wont be expecting Big miles lol!

That seems good Chris.Chris570 wrote:WTF are you doing to them. you are taking the handbrake off arent you46k on my pads so far
This is why I've bought new all round discs and pads and GENUINE. I want to see how much I can extract from them. Do you do long distances commuting?

Notice you have a '96 ZX TD in your 'fleet'. How do you find it performance-wise to your Xantia TD SX? I bought Sylvi a ZX TD. I love driving it. It feels so much quicker than the Xantia that I'm always left wondering if there is a problem with the boost on the Xant. Lucas pump on the ZX and Bosch on the Xant with the 'shock-absorber' which limits the throttle opening too fast.

Re: front discs and pads time !! ??
If I sound like an advanced driver I don't behave like one !! Survival on todays roads demands that you drive with concentration, anticipation and caution, which I do but at the same time I use speed where I can ! Fortunately I have driven for many years, covered huge mileage, in many types of vehicles, in many countries in all sorts of conditions, that sort of experience precipitates perception and driving knowledge tools that provides like a sixth sense. I'm also a motorcyclist, that alone teaches a sense of vulnerability that makes one respect other road users for the danger they can represent.
I only run the Xantia, the list below are those that I've previously owned. The ZX was a very perky car !! I experienced the same as you when I got back into the Xantia I was using at the same time ! The Xantia is a heavier car though so it does blunt acceleration but they cruise better than the ZX which was noiser, not as comfortable and definitely didn't handle as well.
Also, I the gearing on the ZX was shorter, it revved higher at a given speed. Still a pleasant little car for hacking around in though !

Re: front discs and pads time !! ??
Fitted the Pagid pads today - they look like good kit. Anti-squeal backing, chamfered lead in / out on the pads, came with new bolts for the bottom of the caliper. Given that the old pads were pretty well seized into the carriers, the brakes feel instantly better - no wonder they were feeling a bit wooden, and the handbrake was struggling.... Note to self - get the pads out every year or so! NS handbrake cable is broken again as well so need to order one of those up too.

Re: front discs and pads time !! ??
Fitted the Pagid discs and pads yesterday. First observation, they are excellent quality parts at an excellent price from Carparts4less, the only issue I have with their service was the box they used to send them in was falling apart, luckily nothing was either damaged or lost.
Second observation, they installed very well, I've had problems with some pattern pads in the past so it was good to have no issues. Third observation, the discs I removed were TOTALLY shot !! I feel ashamed I allowed them to become so worn ! The pads had between 2 and 4mm remaining. All good so far, and although I haven't done enough miles to bed them in yet they feel MUCH better already.
So, mileage logged, we'll see how long the pads survive !

Unless they were actually on fire they'll be fine !! I've seen some truly scary brake torture tests carried out by car manufacturers.
