Berlingo diesel DW8 engine (1868cc) fuel pump

up date! i fitted the mechanical pump to solve problem with wobbly timing. symptoms were improved but van still ran smoky. a compression test showed cylinder 1 was light. valve clearances were measured and all the intake valves were too tight. took cam out and reshimed the dodgy valves put it back together and the van still ran smoky. started to play with timing and realized that something funny was going on with the crank pulley/pinion the aux belt had been very squeaky and the aux drive pulely was running out of true. when i removed the crank timing belt pinion turned out the key way was baddly deformed as were the 2 keys and the key way in the crank shaft. that explains the timing irregularities. fitted a newer pinion and keys on the damaged crank and torqued up the bolt and no more smoke, so far so good.
