This is an old thread (last post 9 years ago....) so don't expect an answer, plus the OP (Jabo) hasn't been active on the Forum for 7 years.

Re: C5 Front Armrest
Thanks mate for alerting me. i am surprised not many posts about the c5 m1 and m2 armrest issues! probably it wasn't a common issue. i believe it's the mechanism inside the detachable armrest that is defective.
will have to find an old armrest. any idea if i can procure it from any car or they are model specific?

Re: C5 Front Armrest
These seem to be unique to the C5 MK II - the Peugeot 406 ones are different.
To remove it, you need to pivot it upright, then press back in towards the seat side to unlock it, then pivot it backwards towards the rear seats and remove.

Yeah I got them out. The mechanism cant be detached from the armrest upholstry, I see no screws. But didnt the C5 MK1 have the same armrests?GiveMeABreak wrote: 09 Jun 2021, 22:31 These seem to be unique to the C5 MK II - the Peugeot 406 ones are different.

Re: C5 Front Armrest
From your description it certainly sounds like the ones in my two C5 Mk 1's.
Never had any trouble with them though.

Re: C5 Front Armrest
They are the same - just different part numbers for the various trim (I meant unique to the C5 MK I and MK II). The inner mechanism / barrel that the armrest fits into is also available, so it may be that either the armrest pivot or the internal part that it fits into may be worn.aneesh84 wrote: 09 Jun 2021, 22:35Yeah I got them out. Re: C5 Front Armrest
Thanks a lot! No the inner barrel is fine. I compared with the other one, and the issue is with the armrest pivot. It is supposed to stop rotation in one direction (unless its fully lifted) so one can choose various angles of armrest when pushed down, and works fine in the other side. However the mechanism that would stop the rotation on this one (inside the armrest pivot) is malfunctioning so it can fully rotate in both both directions, so just flops down.GiveMeABreak wrote: 10 Jun 2021, 11:41They are the same - just different part numbers for the various trim (I meant unique to the C5 MK I and MK II). Re: C5 Front Armrest
Today I went to the scrapyard and found two C5s, and both their drivers armrest had the same issue. Apparently it is a common problem on C5s.aneesh84 wrote: 08 Jun 2021, 11:50did you find a solution. Mine goes all the way down to the handgear, and does not stay horizontal. I opened it completely but could not figure out a hack to fix it.Jabo wrote: 12 Dec 2011, 14:39 Mines is being funny as well. If I put my arm rest up then put it down, most of the time it won't catch the lower position and it just goes right down to the floor.
I need to wind it all the way back and try to catch the lower position a good few times until it gets it.

Re: C5 Front Armrest
resolved the issue. i opened the armrest and inserted 3 small screws in the end of the barrel which stop the armrest to rotate down to the very end. Keeps them horizontal.
