It is a relatively easy DIY job and worth having a go at.
Save the £££s for the next thing that goes wrong :o .
Sorry could'nt resist.
Seriously have a go yourself and think of the satisfaction of getting one over on the stealers.
Especially when you take it in for the re mot and it passes for only £150 instead of their £870.

Well, my C5 (2006 exclusive estate) needed rear pads, discs, balljoint and droplinks after 40,000 miles.

The rear calipers were an absolute cow to take off, so the dealer may be factoring that into account, assuming it is a C5 II and not an X7.

What made the discs difficult to take off, it may help others in the future and maybe even hdi_man to do his.
And they would have to be a real PITA for the stealer to charge that much.

On a similar note my sister who is a driving instructor took her vauxhall corsa into the vauxhall stealers on a recall for camshafts giving up the ghost prematurely, now a well documented fault.
Strangly enough nothing wrong with hers as we had changed the engine 8 months earlier for a later engine without the fault after her original camshaft had !!! go on guess ???.
They came back with a list of minor things wrong with the car and a bill for the work if it was carried out £280.
The funniest was draining the washer bottle and refilling it £18 plus vat.
The most expensive thing was excessive play in the OS steering tie rod £115 plus vat.
And the best value was drain down and replace brake fluids £30 vat inculded.
I'm sure they look at you and say how much can we screw this mug for.

be aware of the XANT/C5 jacked out rear calliper syndrom !!!!!!

caused by corosion between the arm and calliper,

my local dealers parts manager told me in these case's they dont bother trying to un/bolt the callipers any more,

they just lop the lot off  then fit new callipers pads and bolts, and probably need new discs to boot,

Very long bolts done up very tight plus Loctite the full length of the bolt, exacerbated by the 'jack out' that Malcolm mentions, putting even more stress on the bolts.

Under three years should definitely be a warranty issue!

I think that it may be worth checking whether the passenger side caliper can be swapped to the driver's side and vice versa. You get a corosion free flat, aligned surface.

Nothing on this excellent site prepared me for the volume of the squealing noise of removing the thread locked bolts from the caliper.

There is some brilliant advice on this site as to how this job can be done.
If it can happen it will.

it always used to be possible to swap callipers side to side, and on first glance the XANT calliper looks the same as earlier cit's,

Do the C5 suffer the same issues as the xantia rear calipers then.
I have already done my xantia calipers and although difficult still not that bad to do.
If the C5 is suffering this problem after only 3 to 4 years there is something seriously wrong with the design and should be put right under warranty.

It seems that they are worse than the Xantias
