If you can live with LHD and are wanting to part with many pennies then you could import a French HDi Activa!

Though with the pound to euro value and the fact that French cars are pricey compared to UK ones, they are worth quite a bit.

I was drooling over them (Activa HDis) when I was in France last, ill be on the look out again when im there in a few months time. Might have to sneak one into the C5s boot

An electric pump, now I know Xantia people hate C5s, but the electric pump on an Activa would be excellent, instant height changes instead of waiting, waiting and waiting for it to come up off low.

None of mine actually sink and you don't actually wait ages for the suspension
to lift; the time is required to fill the extra spheres and plumbing with high
pressure fluid. It's no bad thing as it'll help to warm the oil through before
tonking about the countryside so no bad thing on a cold engine/turbo.

I always put the Activa and XM into low when I know I wont be using them for a few days. Also doesn't hurt to make the suspension go through its height levels at the time of starting.

yeah damn uk/irish marketing the activa as a slow sports car rather than a safe fast car ... so we never got the HDi activa - and stupid European people driving on wrong side of road ...

does any one know if the ds5 will have ACTIVA systems?
why?

The concept car that the DS3 was based on had some kind of magnetic suspension IIRC but the production version had steel springs. What with the current C5 only having proper suspension on the range topping models I'm wondering if the magnetic suspension will a selling point in the DS5. Probably wishful thinking.

EDIT: Just had a browse around the net and the general idea is that there will be hydractive suspension available, some sites say only on top models, others say all models. No reliable sources though so can't be confirmed!

I can't see the Activa suspension ever making a come back, not in the same form anyway.

There are various types of active roll suspension and active damping measures on cars now. The magnetic type I believe is a magnetic form of dampers which can adjust damping rate/stiffness. Cars such as the new VW Scirrocco has that, which will be a similar set up to the DS3 racing or whatever it was.

Landrover has played around with active roll systems too, the Discovery 2 had a system to limit roll on versions with air suspension, it seemed to work very well.

Im not sure what the DS5 will possess, if hydractive then I wonder if anyting other than normal Hydractive3+ will be fitted.

Ive just been having a good drive in my Activa, its handling is still surprising me! Its also been a while since ive had wheel spin in a car when in 2nd gear in the dry  What with the need to pass the slowies, I can't see a LHD one working in the UK, not unless your car is always equipped with a passenger

I find passengers either love the Activa or hate it!

Mind I hate being a passenger, so I drive everywhere.

RWD good but going for a big BHP may not be so good, you want something with a decent amount of tqorue as well..

If your just startign off stripping an activa to near shell status would help a fair bit, and relocate the battery to the boot when installing a proper race spec one and half the dash could come/chop out as well.

Windows could go plastic for side ones, reduces centre of gravity as well.

Fog lights as well as i don't think you'll ever need them on a track and would be good to help direct airflow into the airbox as well or upto a cone style filter.

Idealy you would want an airbox to help keep some engine heat out but use 2 smaller cones in it rather than 1 big one as you'll get improved filter area.

maybe see if a plastic bonnet of some sort could be made or at least take the padding out of the standard one.

door cards can go, single wiper conversion as well might save a kilo or two.

Also if you go for the Citroen V6 i believe the newer engines produce more poke, but you can turbo them as well, and without a cat blocking it up as nice set of vernier cams and progammable ecu and easy see the right side of 330 ponies and loads of torque :)

biggest problem is the LHM braking system. what temp does LHM boil/froth at and would you want to go for some nice big 4/6pots up front and twinpots at the back as i don't think you can get them with rubber seals that dont get eaten by lhm though brakes of a C6 or C5 tourer V6 estate could do the job possibly? though you could use a small oil cooler to cool the fluid.

Also you'd need to plumb in an oil cooler somewhere as it could cook it in less than a few hard laps if your not carefull and i'd go for an oil catch tank as well while your at it to make the engine last.

i'd not bother with NOX, its seriously addictive/expensive :D

WI, or Water Injection is a good way to go and can help balance the car more if you put the water tank in the rear. Mixing a bit of meht's or some such with it IIRC helps bring charge temps down and has been used as a spray on FMIC's to help even futher. IE push a button and your FMIC gets cooled a bit, push another and you get WI...

Dont forget the sticky tyres arent cheap and might only last 2 track events..

I hope with all of this weight saving your going to plan your diet around this!

Saving a Kilo by removing a wiper, you dong want to go eating a bag of crisps and putting some weight back into the car :P

Activas seem to get warm, improving cooling would certainly be a first step.

Getting the car and starting is the only place to start, then you take take bits off and tune it from there. It would be somewhat daunting doing it all in one go.

every kilo counts, even swapping the standard seat and rails out for a proper omp/sparco seat and not suing sliding rails but fixing it where its most comfortable helps.

removing the passenger wiper might be better than going single wiper in most circumstances, oh and dont get a model with a sunroof, as its only extra weight and when it rolls more glass to break/replace...

http://www.racetyres.com/track-day-tyre ... ducts.html

for tyres but a lot of people use R888's, i'd be tempted to trailer the car to the track or use a spare set of steelies to get it there and back and thus nto wear out the track tyres on the mundane bit of tracking.

Also brake cooling can be another big problem, possibly lookin at using a scoop each side of the front bumper to direct air into the BACK of the wheel, at best right into the centre where the disc has some opening to get the cool air in the middle and gravity will suck the air to the outside of the disc as it drives.

Pagid used to do very good pads and discs for Fiat Coupe owners but i would reccomend against buying DRILLED discs as they will crack with heavey use ( i went through 2 sets on the front of my coop in less than a year) and ended up going for pagid grooved discs. there are some better ones now from some oz company i think that use a kangaroo paw pattern which helps reduce normal heat spots. Once you start burning items like this up your into the composite terriotry and need to start spending big $$$.

if you move to normal brak fluid or can source LHM compatible seal kits for bigger calipers then possibly porsche GT2 or Ranger Rover supercharged front calipers could be a way to go. just get the mounting brackets made up to fit :)

Also dont get a car with AC, it just makes life easier really :)

Poly bushs as well for all the important bush's and then others as and when they go.

A front splitter that works well will help more with cornering speed as frocing the front end into the ground will help attain more grip and all even greater corner speeds, just watch out for a light tail...

if you got to drag strips then buy a few CO2 fire extingsher bottles and ensure you have a FMIC, using the CO2 on teh FMIC will bring its temps down greatly and assist keepign teh engine cool on the way to doing your run :)

In that case you will need to get a later Activa with AC, then remove the AC ...

Id be very tempted to get a non road going Activa and get it up to race spec, rather than pinching a good one from the roads. Trailer it around, that way mods will be easier as you wont have to keep it road legal.
