fuel pump confusion

When you take off the top securing nut, look at the relative position of the pump to the stud, look at where the washer comes in relation to the end of the slot, if you fit it on the other engine in pretty well the same position it won't be far out.

The best way to set them exactly is by ear, if you advance until it sounds a bit 'cackley' and then retard it enough just to take the cackle off, that will be about right - takes a bit of practise though. You could record the sound of it correctly timed and then try to reproduce that sound on the other engine, let it warm up first though because they always cackle more when cold.

If its over advanced it will be noisey, retarded it will be quiet and more difficult to start.
