It was only in the last months that I sussed the alarm disable as well Mike. The lamp in the switch never flashed, or indeed did anything if I remember correctly. But the red LED above the sensor did! It also responded to different durations of holding the 'alarm' button down. By the way, the alarm button is not a toggle switch. i.e. it doesn't switch and stay in an on or off position as say the hazard warning switch would.
Does the LED flash when the alarm is on?
LEDs rarely fail so it's likely to be a connection issue. I have two sensors and the LED from an S2 if you want them

Hi Geoff,
The LED on the sensor operates as it should do in normal use - I know this because I went through the test procedure for the immobiliser.
However, according to the handbook, to disable the siren, ignition should be on, then press and hold defeat button for two seconds or more and the LED on the button should flash.
When I do this, neither the LED on the button or the sensor shows any sign of life.
It also states, to disable volumetric sensors, igntion should be off, press defeat button and LED on button should illuminate solid.
Again, neither the LED on the button or the sensor comes on, though I thought the one on the sensor did once. I tried to repeat it but failed.
Perhaps I only get one chance in between alarm settings? I'll persevere but I'm not looking for any spares at this point in time as I know the handbook is wrong, it shows the button updside down

I know I struggled with mine initially in the same way but in the end I got the hang of it.
Damn that's frustrating.
I can only think that the manual is wrong and that either the ign on/off status needs to be reversed and/or try both setting with ign off AND on. Certainly, once whatever alarm mode is set (disarm siren and/or volumetric protection) it self cancels and resorts to full protection once the alarm dis-arm button is pressed on the remote.
