I fixed both front seats on my xm by stripping the covers off (also leather) and soldering in a short length of wire to the broken section(s) of the heater elements. A long winded and tricky operation but has lasted a couple of years now and didn't cost anything more than a pack of cable ties

I did the same on mine, worked a treat. I made sure to put a loop in the added the wire for plenty of flexibility. As you say, a bit tricky but worth the effort this weather.
