Have you considered working for Haynes, Adam?
If they included descriptions like yours in the BOL, with screw sizes, accurate descriptions of parts and procedures etc, the books would be worth their weight in gold :D
(Actually Haynes were once like that, but are now a shadow of what they were :cry: )

Ta - some of the older service literature has been a big influence on me. I wasn't wanting to dismiss Andrew's approach; merely to show an alternative.

One of the saddest things about the Xantia mirror is how cleverly it's been designed for partial dissembly/repair - yet they only offer whole units for parts.

This clarifies why the BOL is so disparaged here when I always found them quite useful.
It is probably fifteen years since I last used one and they seemed to be pretty good back then.
