Speaking from the experience of driving round the ring a couple of months ago I can tell you its a damm scary place. My supra was way too slow and you spend a lot of time looking in the mirrors. I plan to go back there next year with the Visa on a trailer as that will be far better. Regarding the lap times. The record for a production car was held by a Radical SR3 Turbo until recently when something else beat it, low 7 minutes I think. Bit of a farce though as they only made 30 SR3 Turbos and the one they took there had to have its nosecone hacksawred apart as it was overheating so much! Although the tracks are quite accurate in gt4 and forza on the xbox somethings are still a bit out like the cars brake too quickly etc but fun none the less

I was watching some of the videos born2die posted above. One in particular is a guy in a VW Polo and yes it does feel far too slow. It seems you need the sort of performance that a Porsche 911 will give, I would have thought a Supra Turbo would give that sort of performance but then yours isn't a turbo is it?
Your Visa is fairly tuned, what is it's performance like compared to say the Supra, or compared to a 911?
There was debate it seems over whether the Radical was actually a production car or not, there have been several other cars that have caused debate over whether they were production cars or not.

Non turbo but its slow. Yes it has 200bhp but horsepower is only a figure. Horse power compared to weight is what to go on. The Supra weighs 1540kg you see! Which give it only 130bhp/ton. The Visa however has 175bhp and only weighs 800kg as tested on saturday which gives it more like 220bhp/ton so is vastly quicker. I got the Visa back on the road and mot'd on friday and did 2 sprints in it this weekend, good to be back in a fast car and got 2nd in class at both, when ive got some photos I will put them in a new thread :) There is no way however I could drive the Visa to the ring as its just so painful, the noise from no interior etc and the seats painful. Problem with the ring is its so far and if you have an off youre stuffed so going there with a trailer is a good idea.
Back to the ring, you dont need mad power, if you know the track you can have fun still and you see lots of locals in mk2 golfs etc flying round at mad speeds as they can keep the momentum up

Back to the gaming side of things - has anybody tried the 'ring in Project Gotham 2, or have all attempts been in GT4?

I used to play it tons. Best I managed was a 6:31 in the speed 12. My friend could do a 6:22, I think the best time were very high 5 minute ones or perhaps low 6's. Got fed up with that game though as it was so jerky and the cars handled so unrealistcally so went onto rallisport challenge 2. Been playing Forza Motorsport the last few days which is very impressive, xbox competitor to gt4 basically but with online play. God knows why they took that out of gt4! Very hard when you turn all the assists off and it doesnt have le mans like gt4 which is annoying but on the whole its good and I will buy it when its in the shops so I can play it online

The Visa no doubt will accelarate better, but will the Supra catch it up at high speeds when drag is coming into play? Or is the Visa way off into the distance by that time?
One of those videos is a 944 Turbo, and the driver is on it pretty much all of the lap, he has it sideways at a couple of points.

Cant really describe how much quicker the Visa is than the supra. Try imagining a xantia with a 1 litre and comparing it to one of yours. Yes the supra has 25bhp more which counts at high speed and would eventually catch up but it would need a hell of a long time. Fastest ive taken the Visa too is 125 which was 6500 in 5th and it was still accelerating hard. On saturday at Snetterton I reached 117 down the Revett Straight which was 6100 in 5th before having to brake. I doubt the supra would have got to 100 in that time. From a standing start the Visa used to do 0-100 in 15 seconds and now its 20kg lighter with a few more bhp so will be quicker still. The Supra for comparison takes about 24 seconds.

Have you considered sticking a turbo on your Visa, as if it isn't stupidly fast already. This is a Golf VR6 with a couple of Turbos... it has wheelspin coming out of corners.

He manages to overtake a Ferrari and a Lamborghini (admitadly the Lamborghini isn't trying very hard). This thing eats Porsches for breakfast, I dunno whether the Porsche drivers were really on it at the time though. The Golf seems to have problems keeping up with an Impreza on the windy bits but gets it on the straight.

Nah as it would move me out of the 1.4 to 2 litre class as they add 40% to your engine cc if you have a turbo and it would be very difficult to do anyway. Next thing for the engine would be throttle bodies which would nudge it to 200bhp when setup right however im happy with the engine for now and concentrating on the suspension first.

lol that video is completly ridiculous, they must have converted it to 4wd as theres just noway it should be able to get that much power down through the front wheel! :D

Chasing the Impreza, you can hear him spinning the wheels up, and he has to back out of the throttle to stop the understeer. Each time he starts on the main straight there is quite a bit of wheelspin and understeer, no oversteer or 4 wheel drift, so I think it is front wheel drive. Once you get up to high speeds (and high gears), you're not producing as much torque at the wheel so it becomes less of a problem. I think at low speeds and in the bottom three or four gears that Golf will have severe traction problems.
Somebody at Saab said 200 bhp was the practical limit of front wheel drive, when they had the 9-5 Aero on Top Gear I remember quite a bit of understeer and tyre smoke.
