Considering that in January I implemented the garage ventilation fan, 150W, and an hour a day of fan heater, 600W, we have still improved on previous years for February! :-D

It struck me that people who are already frugal in their consumption would stand little chance of further reducing their consumption in order to qualify for a reward and your screenshot proves me right.

But then again, it might encourage the profligates amongst us to dial down their consumption. Which, I suppose, was the point of the exercise anyway.

Those numbers don't make sense to me Gibbo, they seem to have added your normal consumption to the special consumption to give the saving!! How could the saving be more than your original consumption? Surely that should show a saving of 0.581-0.02 =0.561kWh? Or am I going doolally? :-D

Plus if you get prize draw entries for each 0.1kWh saved you should have got 5 ! ???? 8-)

There is a program series on Channel 4; Guy Martin's Great British Power Trip. The most recent episode had him at one of the most secure locations in the UK; the National Grid ESO. Typically 2% of your electricity bill pays towards running this site, which is responsible for managing the whole of the National Grid. They buy in power to make sure the Grid stays stable. The objective is to keep the frequency bang on 50Hz. If it is over then there is too much power on the Grid, while lower means not enough power. They have to buy the power from each of the generating stations. Normally they spend £2M a day! To get into the control room you have to pass through an 'airlock', where both doors require a different PIN. Get it wrong and not only will the Police be called, so will the Army!

My thoughts too Mick, I'm going to ask for an explanation.

Not as secret as Guy Martin would have you believe.

My thoughts too Mick, I'm going to ask for an explanation.
Well I contacted Shell about this, got a phone call from them this morning saying they had put the infrmation in another email because it was too complicated to explain over the phone, I'm baffled :? this is the content:

Unadjusted Baseline (UB) - this is an average per hour of usage from the last 10 working days (if event during the week) for every hour of the day

Within-Day Adjustment period (WDA) - this is taken from a 3 hour window that day, closing 1 hour before the event starts (eg 1pm -4pm if event is at 5pm) of actual usge within that 3 hour period. This is to take into account any changes of usage on that day (eg working from home that day due to weather or sickness)

Adjusted Baseline (AB) - takes into account variations of actual usage v average 10 working day usage

*This is all taken directly from National Grid and their methodology and is consistent across every supplier
If you had any figures of your own , please don't hesitate to reply to this email to go over your findings.

That doesn't explain any of the figures on the original post and introduces numbers which were not even there!! I would respond to that email asking for an explanation of the actual numbers on the original post and a further clarification in English of the cobblers contained in that email!! :)

It's actually quite easy to work out the methodology - your energy company wins and you don't. Simples.
