I finally got time last nigh to finish the C6. I've done a few other jobs since it's been in the workshop. The wheels have been powder coated, I've replaced a few clips on LDS pipes that are prone to leaking with jubilee clips, I've replaced a rubber pipe at the back that commonly perishes as well. All I need to do now is get the time to take it in for the tracking to be done.

Thankfully the water leak on the Activa did seem to be from a jubilee clip I hadn't tightened properly. It was from a rubber pipe that goes onto a metal pipe just beside the thermostat housing. It was nice and easy to spot as it had white antifreeze staining around it.

The temperature on the dashboard has been driving me mad on this car for a long time now. It's never read properly on the dashboard. After doing some Googling it turns out that it's quite a common problem and is well documented on the 406 Coupe forum. The blue temperature sensor part no. is 133877. Unfortunately now it is NFP. Thankfully there were a couple of dealers who had them sitting on a shelf and I managed to get one posted to me.

I'll report back once I've fitted it as to wether or not it cures my problem.

That's all for now!

David.

Very pleased to hear the Activa water leak was an easy problem to fix David :D

You'll find the blue sensor is a bit of an interesting job to swap! I'm temped to do mine whilst the engine is still in bits..

Is the blue sensor not common across all engines or is it very specific to the V6?

David, is your thinking the erratic reading on the Temp gauge are down to the blue sender rather that the thermostat

It is indeed Alasdair. From reading several threads on the 406 forum they all seem to say it's cured by the blue sensor. The thermostat in mine was brand new 1000 miles ago and is a pucker genuine one, not a cheap 'un.

Right, my timescales have changed somewhat as of this evening, thanks to a pointer from a friend, I've bought a 3.0 HDi C5 Exclusive. It was in the right place at the right time and was to good a deal to turn down. It's a main Citroen dealer selling it too. I'll be getting more pictures of it and a better description from them tomorrow so as long as everything looks and sounds good, this means that my C6 and Cheryl's 207 need to go now!

Fingers crossed! I'm really quite excited!

Welcome to the pure minimalism of ownership David.

eg, you cannot carry anything more than a phone and a bag of sweets up front........

I should think you will enjoy the ride, which btw is better with 100kg in the boot .........:)

Thanks Alasdair. A minimalist approach sounds a cracking idea given the amount of crap Cheryl usually carries in the car!

The only thing I don't like about this car is that it's currently wearing the 19" Adriatic alloys but they can easily be changed :)

DON'T GET RID OF THE C6!!! It is too nice a car to lose (especially after the work you have done on it). Cheryl can lose the 207.

It's going I'm afraid, James.

The only thing it's really been used for this year is the rallies. I can't justify keeping it just for that. Cheryl's 207 on the other hand gets used daily so it makes sense to combine them into one car. The C6 road tax is £495, the 207 is £120, the C5 is £265 so it's half to the others when combined.

Someone is going to get a stunning car in the C6, but I just cannot justify keeping everything. The XM and the Activa are staying put though. :)

If I had money the C6 would be getting lost 200 miles north of its current home. Alas I do have money but only £36.82 which is maybe not even enough for the diesel to get it here [emoji12] [emoji23]

OK, so where are the wings that should be fitted (as it appears to have come from the junior military service)! Looks nice though.

They left the wings off through fear of it taking off!

The 3.0 HDi has 240bhp, does 0 - 60 in 7.9 seconds, and tops out at 151mpg according to the Citroen literature!

A deal was done today that both and I the dealer are happier with, at a guess I'd say I'm probably happier then he is but he's got a deposit and can't back down now. I'm going to call our local dealer tomorrow and order front and rear mudflaps and some rubber mats as it's got carpet mats in it just now.

I'm leaving home at 2:30am on Saturday morning, driving to Preston in the C6 to leave it with Steve to take to a dealer meet in Preston, then getting the 6:45am train from Preston to Mansfield to collect the C5. I'm then heading back to Preston to go to the dealer meet for an hour or two before heading home to Glasgow. It'll be a long day but should be a good one.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the C5 compares to the C6 as I'll be driving them near enough back to back. I'll get the train down later in the week to collect the C6 unless a top secret plan that I'm hatching comes to fruition!
