Re: Hydraulic Leak 2.0HDi Xantia - STUPID QUESTION

Can someone humour me please?

Are these the same two parts and either way what are they? Some kind of valve or distribution valve?

The first picture is the Supply Piping to the front brakes.

The second picture is the Supply Piping to the rear suspension (which makes me think it cannot be the same part because the pipes appear to come off the same connector).

At this rate, I am going to have to remove the engine I fear to get to all of the pipes and inspect them properly else I may otherwise have NO chance of finding the LHM leak.

Here is one rusty pipe that I cannot identify (in the centre of the photo):-

It is a real shame we have lost access to the Service Box.

That appears to be the priority valve, also known as the safety valve which isolates the suspension circuit from the braking circuit when the engine not running so that the pressure in the accumulator is available for the brakes. The switch controls the pressure warning light on the dashboard.

Roger,
IIRC they're valves which open close for the brakes and suspension front and rear. The pipes rust in them and break when you try to remove them.

But once you broken all the pipes if you can remove the valve they come out with a socket and wrench!!!!!!!!!!

That's what happened to me many years ago.

I cannot remember the actual workings of the valve but the info is certainly on the website somewhere maybe Jim will remember.

Thanks guys.

So there is just one of these then on the car?

It is horribly rusted but I’ve been judiciously PlusGassing it. Still sounds as though it will be a potential mare though according to Kenny W.

One thing I have noticed is that the flare nuts are only 7mm on the S2. I spent £27 on a 8mm. spanner thinking it would do both cars.

So I guess I will have to trace that rusty pipe to see where it goes.

One other thing is the best tactic would be therefore NOT to take the engine out and disturb as little as possible especially with the rubber pipes.

The light that this is supposed to the dash is which symbol please? I imagine it’s not the STOP light but also triggers that?

It is the STOP light, which is also triggered by the level switch in the LHM tank.

Just to add to my confusion.

I've never seen anything like:-

1. the connector in the red circle (where is this? On the bulkhead?)
2. what appears to be rubber connector to what is supposed to be the priority valve in the blue rectangle and
3. This pipe, green rectangle, (which is the other end of the connector in the red circle) which is all supposed to connect straight into the reservoir.

These are all the low pressure return pipes. If I remember correctly the block is on the bulk head, the distribution valve was near to the nearside wheel arch.
But it could be dependent on whether its MK1 or 2 and model .

Kenny
No wonder I cannot find it. I am looking more centrally. This is on my S2.
