Re: Snow good!
It also amazes me how people can't drive in this weather. In deep snow the amount of grip required to go anywhere from a standstill is phenomenal. My Range Rover has been unstoppable in this weather, I had it ploughing through drifts yesterday that were higher then the bonnet. The only time I struggled to get moving again was when I stopped to take a picture. I reversed back a few feet and once moving again it kept going.
People with these new 4x4's and SUV's quite often find out the hard way that they've bought 2WD versions of them or simply cannot drive them. It boils my blood when you see people tailgating each other in this weather, I always let the car in front go and get clear of a hill and then have a run at it myself. As long as you can keep moving, more often then not you can get to where you're going.
David.

Re: Snow good!
We have two neighbours that bought (new) what they thought were 4WD, only to find out that they most certainly weren't. Words fail.

From our window this morning. Coldest here for 30 years or more, part of our water system has frozen, no cold downstairs but hot tap in kitchen still working - and upstairs loo.

Re: Snow good!
Utterly incredible watching the news last night, with all the reporters sensationalising and doing doing their Katie Addie bit talking to stranded car drivers! One driver was moaning and complaining because they were stuck in the snow in a queue of traffic and had no information - "it's pathetic" he said!
What is it with these idiots? Where have they been since last week and on every current news bulletin when all the warnings were issued?
STAY AT HOME!
You get no sympathy - you decided to go out after ignoring the advice and the warnings, so stop complaining and don't expect somebody else to bail you out!

I find it ironic at least one on-the-scene reporter is also trapped as they realise their vehicle is as susceptible as everyone elses.

Re: Snow good!
I took the advice to stay at home today...
We're just deciding if our parkrun goes ahead tomorrow and at the moment we are one of the very few still on... Several hundred have already cancelled. That could change though...
I have a particular interest as I'm Run Director this week and the ultimate decision is down to me... No pressure then!
I'm currently glued to social media keeping in touch with our parkrun team and volunteers...

Did you head home again or take some A roads and/or motorway instead of your usual country route ?
Both my and Sara's work are closed again today so this is our 3rd day in a row home!
Main and A rounds around these parts are absolutely fine though - ploughed, gritted and clear. Venture off the ploughed and gritted roads though and its a different story. Side streets are pretty bad although passable, and some car parks - like the one at Newhouse with the Rapid charger in it, are about 8 inches deep in snow and barely passable.
I did manage to get in there and use the charger with a little bit of a struggle, (I had to reverse up to the charger and use the back of the car as a makeshift snow plough to clear a path

Still snowing heavily here and a nice drift building up by my car and the exit drive.
