Re: On your Bike
I'm really looking forward to seeing your bike pop up in all kinds of interesting places and whilst I'm very apologetic for spotting your ruse so rapidly, in no way will it diminish future outings for this little bike
After all, it can go places where no others can
And yes indeed, it does show I'm well on the mend and I think a trip to the northeast is definitely a goer
I need a good break and change of scenery and the calendar is clear

Re: On your Bike
This is what it says on my bike tyres....
28/32-630 27x1¼ HS 159 Inflate to 85 psi Max. 6.0 Bar.
Front tyre has gone a bit podgy since been pumped up to 60 ish psi with a borrowed pump as Chez Falcon no longer has a bike pump. May need a new inner tube too. Now being a natural skinflint, Halfords do the old fashioned bike pump at £5. The one I borrowed was one of those stirrup pump type things with a proper pressure gauge and could, should you want to, pump things up to 100 p.s.i. I wonder if my size of tyre is old hat now, still in inches and really quite narrow at 1¼. Lets hope Halfords have something suitable. Dont want to come out of there having been relieved of more than £10
I'm not in the game of anything other than bargain basement pleasure cycling, and will never wear the "clothing" "shoes" or any of the other finery! or buy fancy overcapacity pumps!

Re: On your Bike
No, those tyres are still current Neil and quite freely available at economical cost. If they are showing any signs of perishing then do replace them. I'm seen old tyres suffer punctures because the inner tube has bulged out like a balloon through a small hole caused by perishing.
Also always use new inner tubes too and never bother repairing them - except in an emergency.
So, we can't interest you in wearing some brightly coloured aerodynamic lycra when cycling then? Shame as I have a skinsuit that does not quite fit me in need of a new home...
The 'Stirrup Pump' you mention is also known as a Track Pump. Mine will do up to 160psi and I also use it on my cars... It's a brilliant thing and will top up car tyres in no time and is much easier than unravelling the airline or mucking around with a footpump or 12v inflator.

I came across this gigantic chess board!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Thanks Pete, it will sit well alongside Bertie, who has been adventuring today:

| Halfords shopping- Pump £5 Inner Tube £4 |
One of those track pump things acquired gratis but doesn't work since it went "pop". Can't be much wrong with it and may be fixable. That O ring looks too big for a start |
A more precise match for the inner tube from the same gratis source as the pump £0 |

Yes, that track pump should be easily fixable Neil...

Re: On your Bike
Not at first attempt that other O ring looked too big to make any sort of seal, but a couple of smaller ones while still providing a bit of side bulge to the plunger head didn't make any difference. Not the worlds leading expert on the track pump. It's labelled Streetwise Heavy Duty Hand Pump with Gauge this one here

Re: On your Bike
You'll likely find it has a one-way valve somewhere in the body of the pump Neil. If this is not happy it won't make any pressure...
Mine gave trouble a few weeks back and I found its head to be bunged up with tubeless sealant. It blocked it almost completely...

Re: On your Bike
How did you clean it out Jim? I think dismantling of the bottom end may well be more distruction than careful dismantling. Boiling fairy liquid enriched water down the "tube" maybe. It has only one moving part and a series of valves and tubes. Surely little to go wrong which writes it off!. I mean they arent very expensive so they are pretty much in the category of throw away/no parts available/ might as well buy a new one so any hack to get it working obviously a bonus.CitroJim wrote: 05 Aug 2024, 17:28 You'll likely find it has a one-way valve somewhere in the body of the pump Neil. Re: On your Bike
I could dismantle the head Neil and carefully clean it out... Mine's a fairly high-end one and made to be overhaul-friendly...
I'm sure yours will come all apart with a bit of care... Man made it so man can fix it
