Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

High drama at my marshal point during the cycling crit. racing at the MK Bowl last night... One of the leading elite riders had a bar/wheel touch with a fellow elite on the last lap and a big pile up resulted. One rider badly hurt and I was first on the scene. Lots of blood, rider out cold and lying very still on the track after landing face-down. It looked bad. By the time the First Aid was on the scene (happened on the most remote part of the track) he was semi-conscious. He was lucky not to be a lot more seriously hurt. Eventually he was able to stand and wobble to the car that took him to hospital. Concussed, covered in deep road-rash and with a suspect fractured jaw. He'll be hurting today for sure.
His bike was damaged but will recover; it was the rider's biggest concern. The biggest casualty was his glasses. They broke but did their job of protecting his eyes.
I always cover this marshal point as it's regarded as the most dangerous and nobody's really keen to marshal there. It certainly was last evening.
It's by no means the first time I've dealt with the aftermath of an incident whilst marshalling and I doubt it'll be my last...

Re: On your Bike
Whilst walking in the Lakes District a couple of weeks ago I ended up walking back up Hardknott Pass after my sAXo made it up and parked at the the top and also noted signs warning motorists of delays due to a big cycling event .... the following week I spoke to some other walkers who'd witnessed some of this event highlights ....it was bad enough walking up Hardknott Pass never mind this madness

It's a bit of a special one - reckoned to be the hardest Sportive in the UK...
A couple of our Team MK members did it and said it was brutal and awesome in equal measure!
I'd love to but logistically too difficult for me now...

Re: On your Bike
If electric bikes are allowed I'd give it a go, if not I'd use my C8 and walkers would overtake me let alone cyclists!
