Inkjet printers: I spent a good part of my working life keeping a large fleet of them working - for specific task which no other printer technology could fulfil. If I had a quid for every waste ink tank and pad set I've washed out...

Hence why I only have laser printers these days... I've been left scarred by my excessive inkjet exposure

Have a pair of AX's in celebration....

Probably not a favourite colour, but unusual and therefore interesting in the Falcon book! :-D
Ohh, I like that AX Neil and that shade of grey seems to suit it quite well :D The home markets had a lot more AX specials than we did here. I'd love to see that Exclusive up close, as I would the AX Volcane...

Heavy overnight rain has proved my garage gutter work has been a complete success :D

I played it well yesterday, getting a load of gardening done, Strawberry washed (she got muddy traversing narrow, wet roads in Hertfordshire on Thursday), a load of washing done and dried outdoors and going for a long bike ride with a friend...

On that ride I found a wallet lying in the middle of the road... Full of bank cards, driving licence and so on but no phone number. I used the address on the license to return the wallet to its owner by post. Shame I did not find it last week as on Thursday when we went for lunch at the Crown and Sceptre I would have passed close by the owner's house!

I would hope if it was my wallet, someone finding it would do the same.

I "lost" my wallet last night after midnight. Yes wasn't in my jeans pocket where I expected it to be. Needed to find it. Couple of paragraphs tell the tale.
Spoiler: show
Last time I remember using it, some time last week when I put £10 of petrol in the BB Micra, so it must be in the BB Micra. Out with the torch in the dead of night..wasnt there. Went into "I'm going to have to cancel the bank card mode" while carrying out a panic-fuelled search, amongst trouser and coat pockets, down the side of the couch etc etc. Only having the communal smartphone to contact the bank...after midnight...and being fairly helpless at using it myself because I never do, the search now involved let's say a more reluctant and sleepier participant. While I was downstairs pulling the cushions off the couch for the second time, in quick time an encouraging shout was heard from the upstairs search...it was on the bathroom floor  :-D That's the "lost" wallet found with a fresh pair of eyes, and much less panic in the search.

However this morning, my downstairs search has had its consequences. The furniture had been pulled out and moved, and not put back in the midnight search which left a tripping hazard of the charger wire still plugged into the Falcon laptop. and trip I did, hauling the laptop off its table onto the floor, and bending the connector to the power socket.
Ended up with this unintended consequence...wonder if you can even get one of those little "ends" or whether its a new charger. :?:

Plenty of options on the bay of evil Neil but there may be another one. I have a fair few disused laptops with their power supplies. If you tell me the output requirement of yours I may be able to send you a replacement. Help me to make use of one!! No cost, it would be an early xmas pressie! :-D

Pretty much all laptop PCs use a 19/20V charger, but the inside and outside diameters of the plug differ beween brands. Some also have a hidden "charger ID" pin, so best to use a charger of the same brand. I see a blue tip in the picture, HP??

Thanks Mick. I'll not bog down Jims blog with this stuff I'll take it to the IT thread!, although it is tenuously linked to Jim's wallet story, and to "fixing the bit that needs fixing rather than getting a new one" recent discussion here, but a bit of freecycle always appeals to me as well :-D

Sounds like a decent shop :-D

Well it looks like it is bog down Jim's blog time! Maybe I should have asked! :?: Thank for the replies Mick and Mike :-D It is an HP and this charger brand new from curry's fits the bill, but is of course too pricy for the falcon Wallet!

No need to trouble Ali-express, thoroughly recommend Maverick-express for excellent service :-D

Apropos to fixing things a few posts above, my office Leak Stereofetic (always known as the 'stereopathetic' back in the day  ) FM tuner payed up this morning with one channel failing...

Fixed in around 10 minutes :) A dry joint on the decoder board... They have a reputation for this after over 50 years of service :)
20241014_122419.jpg
Although jokingly known as the 'Stereopathetic' it was actually a very good tuner and was one of the first tuners to use the then brand-new dual-gate mosfet transistors in it's front end - hence the name!

Seen here in the picture is its companion Leak Stereo 30 amp... This one was a complete basket-case when I acquired it - originally just for spares as it had been well and truly 'got at', bodged and very faulty. During lockdown and injury I was so bored I brought it back to life and and its been as good as gold ever since... This is one of the original germanium Stereo 30s and Leak's first foray into transistorised amps... It sounds good - a bit 'rounded' and not unlike a valve amp... It does not have the harshness of later silicon amps...

Santa has paid me an early visit :-D He was out on a sleigh test ride making sure it's all good for the big night...

To maintain his anonymity he was cunningly disguised as our local Evri courier... His sleigh was disguised as a BMW X5

Lots of AX goodies to go into long-term storage...

Another consignment will be ordered next month...

I made a trip to B&Q early this morning to return that bag of cement I bought. It was cement and not ready-mixed concrete as I thought... Now bought the right stuff for the job. It was my lucky day and maybe a karma-reward for returning that wallet as I found a brand-new 14mm combination spanner in the bottom of the trolley I chose to navigate around the store :D It's in my toolbox now ;)

I also bought a new garden digging fork. Last year I bent a tine on my old one and it snapped off when I tried to straighten it. Shame as it was a nice Spear & Jackson stainless steel one... I found a three-tine fork is about as much use as a split CV boot... It went to the tip...

I've been busy all afternoon starting to make inroads into the heavy de-jungleisation I need to do ahead of the remodelling of the garden to make it less of a chore to look after. The new fork, another stainless steel one, works brilliantly :D I got a good bit of useful work done today.

Tomorrow I plan to fit a new track rod end to Bluebell...
