Cam belt tensioner tool

Unread post by oldnail »

Has anyone got a right hand engine mount handy for an XUD engine that they can measure the distance between the bolt hole centres so I can make up a plunger retaining tool ready for a cam belt change.
Have the other dimensions for the tool just need the hole centres.

Never needed one, the plunger only falls out if you remove the tensioner completely and to be honest if it falls out you can quite easily pop it back in. As Malcolm says a 3/8th short extension and ratchet fits the square hole and a 13mm socket and ratchet is needed to tighten the locking bolt once the tensioner is out of the way, being ambidexterous is handy for a short while.

When i did my 406 (XUD) engine and accidentally pinged the tensioner piston and spring halfway down the road, i just put a bit tie wrap round the whole thing and fitted it, then when it was nearly fully done up, i simply cut the tie wrap and pulled it out and tightened it properly,
Its the easiest and simplest method i could come up with at the time (6pm on a sunday evening!, no shops open and getting dark)

90mm is the distance I need.
Many thanks,
