sorry its sunday morning

Post by weety »

Hi
Now i appreciate this is a sad question (actually very sad question) but does anyone know what the clear plastic strips are for on the bottom part of the back door and part of the rear wing on a Xantia????
Why do i ask i hear you say welllll my friend has just bought an avensis and that has the same strips......so she asked me.... (over the years i have carefully cultivated a aura of knowledge about all things mechanical with our female brethren).
Now i have no idea at all..... from myopically staring at a couple of cars parked outside the house a volvo estate has them and a golf doesnt.
So if anyone knows i would be grateful to know as, to be honest, its starting to bug me a bit about what they are there for.
I would just like to apologise to everyone who has read this and wants two minutes of their life back to use for something more interesting [:D][:D]

They are there to stop stone chips as that part of the car is 'in the line of fire' from the front wheels.

Ford Ka's are particularly prone to stone chips in that area, they don't have these plastic bits so they rust when the paint gets chipped off.

Perhaps the later Kas do, but the earlier ones I've seen with rusty holes in the sils didn't.
My older Xantia doesn't have the strips, instead it has chips, only my newer one has strips.
