Quite simple- put the axle stands under first!!!
If it depressurises itself, you just use an old scissor jack, one should go under as they are only about 2" high when flat.

You can't always jack up a Xantia if its suspension goes down to the bottom. I managed to bend a jack trying when my plastic link came off on the old one. The jack has no leverage when its compressed so all you end up doing is bending it without actually lifting the car at all.
