It failed on a cracked windscreen, worn track-rod end, and lack of damping in the front suspension.
So, the new track-rod end took 6 hours (seized beyond belief - needed a lot of heat to get that b*****d off), got the windscreen done through my insurance, and I citaerobic-ed the pants off the car. Really needs a good flush, but no time or money just now. Oh, and my "new" gearbox from the dismantlers got here today. Guess what I'm doing over the weekend
