Is the mother inlaw dealing with it through the Insurance? If so they may do you a favour and write it off! No need to change driveshaft etc then!

Sadly no. Decided to get it sorted myself (want to remain on friendly terms with MIL at least for babysitting duty!)- likely though insurance would write it off as it also has a small crease in the sill too, only saw that in the cold (wet) light of day.
On the plus side she has said she will give me £100 towards it - so driveshaft will be paid for after all[:D]
