Dead S2 XM Remote Locking Fob

Folks,
I suspect that it's a case of paying lots of money to a main dealer, but is there any "alternative" way of reactivating a dead "plip"?
The batteries are new, the light comes on, but no locking/unlocking. The spare plip works fine.
Any clues, please?

Extract the PCB and check for breaks in the circuit tracks, especially where the switch pins sit - they have a habit of breaking off. A small soldering iron should be able to fix the problem. (you have checked the batteries of course?)

Point it at your digicam. If there is IR coming out, the camera will see it on its screen.

Pointing it at a digitcam won't help - S2's have radio signalling!!
