'93 Xantia radio wiring.

Unread post by Tony589 »

Hi, the wiring behind my radio has been butchered by the previous owner and the only connector remaining is the one with the power to it. I am getting a set of ISO repair leads but need to know where all the wires go. The diagram in the haynes book doesnt seem to show the colours etc.(unless I am reading it wrong). Is there an online diagram for the radio connections?
Thanks,
Tony.

I had the same problem with a '93 Xantia I just obtained. Highly butchered wiring - I am stuck as to the steering wheel controls, but got the power and speaker ones OK.
Bear with us - I'll annotate the wiring for the power and speakers connector blocks.
Shan't be able to do that till this evening or tomorrow a.m. though.
Can you check your Wayne's manual and post saying what the wires go where in the steering wheel controls connector block - I think they're the screened ones (2 single-core screened and one twin-core screened).
I have loads of redundant wires I'm not using. They are an off-drab-greenish colour.
I don't have a CD changer, and the original radio in the car was the basic model (2 speakers only, but I've re-wired for rear speakers as well).

Hi Sully, I have worked out the power and speaker wiring thanks.
What I did find was that the small green and brown wires are mostly for speakers. Two pairs go to the dash mounted tweeters and two pairs go into the rear doors. There are no speakers in the rear doors on mine so I am going to fit some.
Like you I am struggling with the steering controls.
If I find out how they go I'll let you know.

Sully,
I have metered the wires to the steering controls and found that they are: four of the small single green wires (I hadn't realised there were four left after connecting the ones which are speaker wires) and one small single black wire.
Still no nearer finding which goes where on the connector.
I think trial and error is out of the question as it isnt just using straight switch connections. I opened the steering wheel cover and there is a small PCB with a network of SMT components on it. I think it might be using a binary signal or somthing.
