Reprogramming Xantia IR Plip

Hi
What is the proceedure for reprogramming the plip on a 1997 Xantia. After doing a search there are several conflicting techniques mentioned (they are all similar in pricipal), can someone give me the full lowdown.

If it is the same procedure as for the Peugeot 406, you have to turn the ignition on and hold the plip about 2" away from the ignition barrel and hold the button down for about 30secs.
Any doubt, ring a Citroen dealer.

Not the IR ones.
I think it's turn on the ignition and fire the plip at the reciever for a few seconds (2? 3? 5?).
I think the plip needs to be fairly close to the blimp in the roof lining as well.
