306 high brake light fitting??

I Have just got hold of the high rear brakelight to fit to my 306 - the unit has two wires connecting to a plug - can i just cut wires and connect to the existing brake light wiring for the normal rear brake lights, and run the cable down the inside of the boot lid?
Has anyone done this before?
