xantia clutch cable

Unread post by timmsd »

Boy did I have fun yesterday. I was dismantling a Xantia for parts and I decided to remove the clutch cable. Read haynes which said to use a screwdriver to depress a plastic clip to release the cable inner from the top of the pedal. Well, the engine was out, removed the facia, steering colume and just about everything I could and still couldn't see what clip they were on about.
Has anyone changed one of these, just in case I have to one day?
In the end I pulled it free with brute force and ignorance from the gearbox end.
I thought the BX was a swine.... but this!

Dave,
I believe you are referring to the infamous 'plastic clutch pedal clip' which is the weakest link in the clutch system and gives up the ghost when the clutch starts to get heavy. I have yet to have the 'pleasure' of changing one, but I understand you have to remove the clutch pedal, which is easy or difficult depending on which way Citroen fitted the pivot bolt, you then hook the cable into the new clip before refitting the pedal.
Best hope you never have to do one!

Noticed from the link, and other references that some have had a problem removing the push rod/spring holder. Mine was very tight, but i found that sliding a small screwdriver up inside the channel of the pedal it could be levered out no problem at all.
