Seat belts

Unread post by ucapajr »

Dear All,
I need to buy a car seat for my 6 month old. Britax have a really good web site regarding this, but only reccomend post '94 ZX's. I have a '93 Avantage.
Having a look in an old parkers I have I see that in '94 the ZX came with seat belt pre-tensioners, but it does not say where they
were fitted ( to all 4 proper belts or just the front).
Can anyone tell me a) if the pre-tensioners were fitted all round, or just to the front? and b) if this makes any difference to the safety of fitted child seats?
Thanks in advance from a very confused (I thought you straped the seat in and that was it) new dad!!

i think the pretentioners are only installed on the front seats, the rear buckles are bolted straight to the car.

The post 1994 ZX's had pre-tensioners fitted only to the Front. The airbag was fitted to Driver's side only throughout the time of the UK market ZX 1994>. I really don't know what the effect of pre-tensioners are on a childseat, I would hope that they would be an advantage in that they would pull the child seat closer to the main seat.
As an aside, ZX rear seatbelts are quite short, you need to check that your child seat fits OK in the back of your ZX. In our car, one of our childseats (Britax, forward facing) is very hard to fit in the back, and when we have to use the ZX we locate it in the front with the front seat pulled right back, and the height adjuster on the front seat belt at the lowest position so that it fits safely. Our baby seat, when our youngest was in a backwards facing britax fitted Ok with the belt at longest length
