What does this cable do?

Unread post by Fox »

Hi all,
Under the bonnet on the drivers side of my Xantia, right at the front, is where the wire for the headlamp comes up and then connects to the rear of the light unit. Also coming up with this wire is a smaller wire, clipped to the headlamp wire, with a small black and purple connector on the end. It's not connected to anything but looks like it should be.
What's it for?
Ta.

do you have fog lights, if not it could be for that as you will find the electrics are the same in several modals as it works out cheaper to manufacture.

Fox -
Xantia schematics are found here :

Do yourself a favour, and look them over to understand the way Citroen do the electrics ...

The car has foglights yes. The connector for those is at the other side, however.
It looks clean inside the connector so I assume it used to be connected to something..
Cheers for that link Anders :)

I'll try and look on my VSX in a bit, but I've got an ECU box there on mine (for the Hydractive, I think)

I had a look on mine on Saturday, and that wire is plugged into the bottom off side corner of the headlight - I didn't post that as I didn't think it was the wire you were referring to! No idea what it is doing there though....
