Got to do the outers on my '94 405 1.9 GLD. Looking at Dave Burns' reply a few pages back can I confirm that with Standard (non-split) boot all I have to do is undo the lower ball joint, slide back/remove the old boot then firmly whack the outer CV joint, swing out the suspension leg and then I can replace the boots? Any suggestions as to how to grip the drive shaft to prevent it from pulling out from the diff/gearbox?
Cheers
Daffy
Just seems so simple????

Thats how I've done it on a ZX, its awkward so you might want a mate helping by pulling on the shaft while you wallop only the centre part that is splined to the end of it with a soft metalic drift, preferably brass.
NOTE: the last one of these I did this way sheared the retaining wire circlip on the end of the shaft, this did not matter at the time as the replacement boot kit was a Pug/Cit original replacement and contained a new clip.
If the outer CV's are triax joints and not the normal six ball type then this method can't be used.
