it is to store petrol vapour from the fuel tank to stop it getting into the atmosphere, the vapour is then recycle/ burnt by the engine to help slightly with emmisions/economy.the recycling of the vapour is controlled by the ECU via the canister bleed electrovalve.

Hi Dom,
I will try and help re sourcing this part. Do you mean the cylindrical looking thing with 2 pipes at the top (Citroen 96132171) ot the actual electro valve 1628F0 ????
Would also need your RP number, theres a change at RP6777 on vapour recycling system.
See below, hope I'm right

Made enquiries, and the Cannister is "Genuine only" 96132171 and its £30.47 from Citroen. The nuts are 693997 at 26p each!
So, sorry to say its Citroen or secondhand.
Doh.

dont know about BX's or other older cars but i think most cit petrol injection cars (with a cat) have canisters,i know on the 8v xantia it is in the engine bay but quite often they are fitted hidden under one of the front wings.

I'm sure I've seen a number of postings about this canister on BX forums referring to 16v's and, well the solution was a "nil expense" one - the concensus seemed to be to do without it. How advisable, safe or environmentally friendly it is to dispense with this piece of kit is perhaps another matter but thought I'd mention it anyway...

Asking about 16 V engines in Xantia. I can't remember to see one in the engine bay.
