Hi,[8)]
I have an 89 Citroen AX GT. When reversing, the car shudders/jumps. [:(] It does'nt jump out of gear, just the whole car jumps.
Any ideas [?] Is it going to cost me my right arm to repair [[?]
Also, car is due for an MOT next week, would it be an MOT failure ?
Thank you,
Abigail [:X]

Might be oil in the clutch or clutch wear but first I'd have a very good look ay all the engine / gearbox mountings and in particular any tie bar (possibly on the back of the gearbox going to the body)
Is your clutch cable in good condition or does the pedal snag or feel lighter when released? - if so the clutch cable may be at fault.
If it is oil I would expect to find some leaking from around the clutch area particularily underneath.

On AX's I have seen the pads moving in the calipers when you reverse, this can cause judder, the solution is normally recon calipers and new pads.
Also check the front arm bushes are not very badly worn, if they are the front wheel can actually move back in the wheelarch! This also causes the sort of judder that you describe, again only in reverse!
