Track rods, inner and outer.
As I'm replacing my track rod end with great difficulty. I noticed the track rod itself was very easy to move, should that be the case or does it mean I need to look deeper into the inner end?

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: Track rods, inner and outer.
Can you get someone to hold one side track rod while you try to move the other side. That will show you if you have too much play in the rack/ inner track rod ends.

Re: Track rods, inner and outer.
My tie rod end is seized so cut it off, heat treatment tomorrow, I think I've got to replace the inners after the MOT, the rod is floping around like a 'flacid windmill' you get what I mean. Or is that supposed to happen on Citroen's as these cars are bloody strange? Any tips on how to do the inner rod? any advice appreciated.

Re: Track rods, inner and outer.
There are a fair number of videos on Youtube for inner tie rod replacement eg
I have the inner tie rod tool if you'd like to borrow it Ryan, as you can see at: viewtopic.php?p=792673&hilit=inner+tie+rod#p792673

Re: Track rods, inner and outer.
Prior to my health going up the swanny in March I would have been happy to do that
Now I'm afraid it will be a case of come and get the tool and either do it here or take it home to do while I sit around watching. Might even interest Jim in lending a hand whereby you go to him, I'll meet you there with the tool and then use his carport while he's not looking!!

Re: Track rods, inner and outer.
The inner should be loose, as in free to rotate and move around, but there should be no play in the joint.

Re: Track rods, inner and outer.
Well there's no push and pull play but it won't stay in 1 position, as soon as I let go of it it drops rapidly and I can flick it in any direction, I'm assuming that's not good.

Re: Track rods, inner and outer.
That sounds OK, as long as there is no play. Granted if it's very loose it may shortly develop play!
