Lexia/Diagbox Backup

Unread post by jaizan »

I've had to do a total reinstall of my Lexia Diagbox a couple of times, due to problems. This is obviously very time consuming.

Therefore, I have attempted to do a total clone of the hard drive, so that I have a back up. I temporarily installed it in a different PC and used Aomei to clone the drive.

The original runs Diagbox just fine.
The clone requires activation, which is not required on the original. Clearly not a perfect clone ! Neither of the options work.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this ?
Has anyone successfully cloned their Diagbox?

I've moved your post here where you have a better chance of a response. :)

Unfortunately you can't simply clone the drive as the new drive will have different parameters and that's why you have to do a new installation.

I found this out when I upgraded the Diagbox laptop to an SSD. i suspected it might happen as you're encouraged to write a long activation code code down when you come to the end of the installation process.

I'd quite like to know where it goes wrong. If the new drive is a total clone of the old one, everything should behave the same. When I have cloned drives in the past, everything is the same. Even Windows works without new activation.
However, the one exception seems to be Lexia/Diagbox. Whilst it opens, it's not behaving the same as the original.

Is the new drive an exact make, model and capacity as the original? Even then it's have a different identification. It's not a matter of going wrong, it's a security issue and, I suspect, protection of intellectual rights for the software. Jim at EasyDiagnostics confirmed that reinstallation is a common requirement.

It will not work, because diagbox use the mac adres of the computer whiles instalation, so when you clone the hdd/ssd to a different machine there's a different mac adres.

I'd like that answer, if it were true, as it's possible to change the MAC address of a PC.

1 Firstly, I have not installed the cloned version. It's supposed to be a direct copy of the hard drive from the working copy. I'd expect it is >99% the same, but just enough is different to trip up Diagbox.

2 Secondly, I just checked. The MAC addresses and other PC identification numbers on the clone are exactly the same as the original. There seems to be more than one MAC address according to the network adaptor, but they are all the same as the original.

It's not just one item that's noted. It's a load of parameters that are taken.
