Looking for the fuel filter, Citroen DS3 2014,1.2, petrol

Unread post by DJRD »

Good morning everyone
After lying around my car ( DS3 2014,1.2, petrol ) looking for the fuel filter, I could not find one. Is this correct or have I found a modification??
Behind the rear offside wheel there's a cover which I took for the fuel filter housing but no, it's to do with the rear brakes. But near by there is a black cylindrical thing with two tubes coming out, I took this to be the charcoal canister.........is that correct? If so, is there a fuel filter? It's not in the engine compartment.
Many thanks

I've split this post off to here where it should have a better chance of being answered.

Have you looked on sites such as GSF using your car reg to see if they sell a fuel filter ? If not then chances are it does not have one.

Thanks paulC5.
I have checked the gsf website and no they don't sell fuel filter for my car. I brought a fuel filter from Halfords.. Took it for granted that a 2014 car would have a fuel filter, loads of YouTube videos showing how to change filters, admittedly for Europe not UK. Also can't seem to source a filter cradle or housing, I do have the triangle bit for cradle or housing to fit to.

I dont know this model/engine combination that well but most petrol PSA vehicle from the early 2000's onwards dont normally have fuel filters unless the vehicle was sold in a country with 'dusty atmosphere'.
The way to tell on the older models is if there is only one pipe on the fuel rail (i.e. no return line) then there is no fuel filter fitted.

Thanks Wheeler.
It's the lowest powered non turbo in its range, only 3 cylinder too.
Would you know if I should fit one, say near the fuel rail would cause any problems?
Not interested in high performance or the such my days of burning rubber and high 'g' donuts are well gone.

The lack of fuel filter doesn't seem to have resulted in any significant problems reported on this forum.

Last time I had a petrol fuel filter on a car might have been on a 1970s one and never had a dirty petrol problem since so the fuel must be clean from the petrol stations. Also fuel tanks on cars are plastic now so do not rust internally.

If you insist on fitting a fuel filter you might find the existing pipes are hard plastic so cutting and then trying to seal them to a filter might not work.

I did a google lens search on the other thing you took a picture of and could not find anything like it so maybe a previous owner put it on if not standard. Next time you are at your Citroen dealer show them the picture and see if the parts dept know what it is.
