Hi all,
I had a refurbished rack fitted recently to a c5 x7... and having issues.
I've done about 10 hours of driving, and a few times I've had the error "power steering faulty" come onto the dash, alongside an engine management light.
It was only when the rack was under a lot of load. Such as when the rack was on full lock, or the tyre rubbing against a kerb.
Error code is "C1203, jamming of the electropump assembly motor fault".
Unfortunately this is the second refurbished rack I have put on. The first one instantly blew a seal and was pouring fluid.
The company sent out a second rack, and now I'm having the engine management lights.
The mechanic filmed the rack bleeding and flushing processes for me, and it looks like he did everything correctly.
Two questions...
1 - Is there anything you think I could do? I'm tempted to get the system flushed again and see if that helps.
2 - Do you think the fault code is due to a jam in the pump.. or could it be a jam in the system elsewhere? (Or maybe even just a bad rack?)
Cheers

Re: "powersteering faulty"
I would suggest going back to the company who have now supplied two racks and ask them to refund you. Then find a more reliable method of refurbing your current rack. Of course you could go back to the non power steering days and don't turn the steering wheel until the car is moving and don't rub up against any curbs!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I'll admit it's tempting... although then I'll have paid for 2 installations with little to show for it.mickthemaverick wrote: 29 Oct 2026, 11:44 I would suggest going back to the company who have now supplied two racks and ask them to refund you. I'd prefer to see if I can fiddle this rack and get it usable.. even if it means paying for another flush.
For anyone wondering, the supplier is "Lion Automotive" in wakefield.

If you have to pay a garage for the installation again I would get them to source the rack and then they would be responsible for both labour and parts in the event of a fault.
