Apple carplay constantly audio stuttering

Hi everyone I’ve recently bought a citroen berlingo, the year on the car is 2016 and i love it but the one problem that’s really bothering me is that constantly when i use the apple carplay the audio stutters every 10-15 seconds, It happens on all of the apps spotify, soundcloud and even when i use siri it’ll stutter.

This same problem doesn’t happen when i use the citroen berlingo bluetooth. It strictly only happens when connected to the carplay, But i would love to use the carplay as i like using it for apple maps but this problem really bothers me because once it’s in your head you can’t ignore it (This is wired carplay by the way)

My system update was last updated in 2015, And i know there’s a more recent update in 2017, but people say not to update because it may brick the system


I tried using the citroen app and downloading the update onto a usb but for some reason they wouldn’t allow my VIN on the app and wouldn’t let me

I also asked a garage for help and they refused to do it as it may brick so i’m really stuck on what to do any help is hugely appreciated

The first thing is to try another phone to see if it still happens.

I have, i’ve tried a different phone, different charger and different door speakers, none change anything

Would it be possible to try Android Auto with an Android phone?

Android auto doesn’t work on the car, instead it has an older “Mirror link” which is no longer compatible i believe

What head unit is fitted? I suspect it is a SMEG+IV2 but can you confirm? What version of firmware is fitted to the head unit? That will tell us.

Yes i believe Smeg+IV2

The system version is: SMEG6.1D.R19

The bluetooth version is 1.2.0

The display version is 40.20

I believe that ver 6.4 something is the latest firmware version. I'm going out for the day and won't be able to look for this until this evening. If anyone else has a link feel free to chip in.

I’ve heard that 6.4 may brick the whole radio and cost £1000 to fix

6.3.C.R11 is apparently safer

Have you tried a different connecting lead? Even if it used to work, and looks fine, there can be intermittent cracked wire faults. Perhaps the cheapest thing to try before you risk updates. Also look very carefully at the plug sockets on phone and car, use a pin to scrape out any accumulated and compacted debris.

Hi yes i have, i used a brand new halfords lead first time and after that i bought a £20 super fast lead for high transfer speeds and it still occurred

I haven't been able to find a download of 6.3 anything. However forum member @MacSlavko posted on GPSPower in 2020 that he had no problems updating from 6.1.20 to 6.4.10. Read from here and for the rest of the page.
