Yes I figured that out, that's a relief!
I had to cut the nut off the drop link, so that'll be getting replaced.
I've started on the top nut, but I'm worried that the allen head will just round out. Somebody suggested clamping the shock absorber instead, is it just a case of pulling down the plastic cover and sticking mole grips on it?

When the cv clips on our Cactus failed I fit Halfords 70-90mm jubilee clips for the cv boot outer clips. Been through 2 MOTs without any comments. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/tools ... 39686.html
Do not clamp around the shock absorber chrome shaft as it could get marked and might damage any seals as it goes down into the shock body causing it to leak. The shaft is quite strong so you are unlikely to damage it using a hex bit to hold it as the nuts are undone with a ring spanner.

Re: 308 noise from steering
Ok, after a lot of swearing etc I finally have the strut off. I'd already bought a new top bearing because the video I followed said they were pretty weak and likely to need replaced, and it was only £15 on top of the drop link that I was already buying.
Anyway, it looks like I also need the part that goes between the spring and the bearing? I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at. The whole strut looks pretty ropey tbh.

The rubber gaiter is in bits and it does not come with the strut so you will need one of those.
You could do with a look at a parts diagram to see all the bits. This topic has a link near the end that goes to parts diagrams up to about 2012 so may help viewtopic.php?t=90057&start=15

Re: 308 noise from steering
Thanks for the link, I'm struggling to find the diagram for the strut, got a useful bit about the bearing though.
Looks like the bit I need is this:
Annoyingly, I could have bought it along with the bearing itself for the same price as I've just paid for the bearing! So I'm probably going to end up with a spare bearing. Ah well.

Is this the one for you? https://szervizdoksi.hu/peugeot/sb.html ... T7F550A30A
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Brilliant, thank you!
I think I'm just going to buy a complete strut from a breakers. Depending on the condition of the spring and bearing I might put my nice new ones in.
